ELEMENTARY
Students may come to the library before school, after school, and
during class with permission from their teacher.
Our elementary classes are on a 6-day rotation. Students may
check out books on the following basis.
Kindergarten – 1 book; First through Fifth Grades – 3
books. We allow 2 weeks before books are considered
overdue. There will be no fines at the elementary.
Overdue books must be returned before students may check out
another book. Overdue notices are issued to students during
their scheduled library time. Lost or damaged books must be
paid for or make payments on the amount due before students may
check out another book. Letters are sent home to parents with
information about the lost or damaged book. Additional books
may be checked out for research or special projects.
Our flexible schedule allows teachers to schedule classes in the
library for research or other activities when regular library
classes are not in session. Students may take AR test in the
library with approval from the classroom
teacher.
JUNIOR HIGH and HIGH SCHOOL
Classes are scheduled bi-weekly. Junior High and High School
classes alternate weeks. Our flexible schedule allows
teachers to schedule classes in the library for multiple
usages. Students may come to the library before and after
school, and during class with a pass from the classroom
teacher. With approval from the classroom teacher,
students may come to the library to use the listening lab to listen
to books on tape or CD. There is also a quiet area with
magazines for reading pleasure.
Students in grades sixth through twelve may check out 3
books. We allow 2 weeks before books are considered
overdue. Another five days are allowed before a fine of five
cents a day starts. Overdue or damaged books must be paid for
or make payments on the amount due before the student may check out
another book. Additional books may be checked out for
research or special projects.
NOVA NET classes are available for high school students.
Teachers may check out AV equipment at any time.
Online resources that may be used at school or at home, with
passwords and usernames, are available at the library for students,
staff, and community people.
STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES
As a member of the Texas Library Association, Stockdale ISD Library
recognizes the importance of considering the standards set by the
Texas State Library and Archives Commission, in consultation with
the State Board of Education.
Curriculum
Integration
The library should be an inviting atmosphere to assure all persons
that the library is essential to the learning process. The Library
staff works in cooperation with the academic departments to enhance
learning outside the classroom.
Hard copy resources and audio-visual resources are purchased and provided to the teachers that are curriculum based. These resources may be checked out by the teacher/staff and used in the classroom or students may use them in the library setting.
Online resources are available through the library to staff, students, and community. Staff development in this area is essential. This resource is available to anyone with Internet access.
Accelerated Reader is a program offered to all students. This program is an innovative, researched based reading program which offers leveled reading books with technology based computerized tests. These tests include testing of comprehensive skills and vocabulary. It is an individualized program, which encourages each student to read at his/her reading level and pace. It is an important program as it allows every student with any type of learning need to improve his/her reading skills. We have an AR Incentive Program to promote reading in our school.
